Copper marks

Copper marks can name a maker, retailer or workshop; an embossed shape number and a plated-surface description have separate roles.

Stamped name and construction

Look beneath the base, beside a handle attachment and on the underside of a lid. A maker’s name can be struck directly into the sheet, while a retailer label may be attached later. Rolled seams, rivets and soldered joints describe construction.

What to check next

Copy the full trade name and any town. A silver-coloured surface with EPC wording describes electroplated copper, not a different copper maker. Match the mark with the vessel form and handle construction.
