Angel pewter marks
Broad wings, large separate crown and M beside the lower body. Two impressions on the handle are the same mark.
Read the stamp
Pewter tankards can bear maker, capacity, ownership and official verification marks in different positions.
A capacity word or measure belongs to the vessel’s use. A later official stamp near the rim can record checking for trade, while a touchmark on the base or handle identifies a maker. A pub or owner inscription is a separate addition.
Record the rim, handle and base as separate views. Match the maker device and capacity together; an official verification date need not be the production year. Preserve any lid and body marks independently.
