Costume jewelry marks

Costume jewelry signatures identify brands and workshops; a brand stamp can appear on plated metal and does not state a precious-metal fineness.

Signed backs, clasps and hang tags

Look for a full name such as Trifari, Coro or Monet on a brooch back, earring clip or clasp. LC can represent Liz Claiborne in its documented signature. A copyright symbol belongs to the design or brand wording, not a metal grade.

What to check next

Compare the typeface, any accompanying crown or emblem and the construction of the clasp. Separate GP or other plating wording from the name. Match earrings as a pair: clip backs and screw fittings may have different space for a signature.
