Read the stamp

Ironstone china marks

Ironstone china marks can read STONE CHINA beside a maker name; an impressed mould number differs from the transfer-printed stamp.

Body name and maker name

A stamp can combine IRONSTONE CHINA or STONE CHINA with a company name and a royal-arms style device. The arms can be a trade emblem. Look for Mason’s, Johnson Brothers or another actual manufacturer name around the body description.

What to check next

An impressed size or mould number is separate from the transfer-printed stamp. On an unmarked white vessel compare the profile, handle and foot with a documented shape; the word ironstone alone gives neither a factory nor a production year.
