English pottery marks

English pottery marks can identify a manufacturer, a pottery town, a ceramic body and a registered design in the same backstamp.

Names, emblems and neighbouring codes

ENGLAND and MADE IN ENGLAND are country wording. BURSLEM, LONGTON and STOKE-ON-TRENT name pottery centres. WEDGWOOD, SPODE and MINTON identify particular firms.

What to check next

Read a painted pattern number separately from an impressed date code. An Rd number identifies the design registration, while an impressed three-letter Wedgwood group follows a maker-specific date system.
